Behind the Music

"The whole reason I was at AmaGroove, and why I work so hard on my music, is because I truly believe in it. ‘Follow’ is about that belief—about staying committed to your dream and never giving up"

giving up"

Born from the creative magic of the 2024 AmaGroove Residency  in Johannesburg, ‘Follow’ is a testament to the power of collaboration, cultural exchange, and relentless passion. At the residency, Danish-Ghanaian artist AGGi drew from her Afrobeat influences and intimate R’n’B melodies as she joined forces with South African producer UBeyond and Danish producer Mark Fosnæs to craft a track that inspires listeners to chase dreams fearlessly. Post-camp, AGGi continued refining the track with her Ugandan-Danish producer, Elias Anguyo.

AmaGroove’s writing sessions pushed artists to create something extraordinary daily. During the residency, fourteen creators collaborated in different groups, producing twenty cross-cultural tracks. When ‘Follow’ was born, the chemistry in the room was undeniable—AGGi, Mark, and UBeyond immediately knew they had something special. The track’s uplifting message is rooted in the Zulu word “Shikisha,” meaning “go in and do your thing,” often used to inspire action in cyphers. UBeyond’s Zulu heritage anchors the song, reinforcing its bold and unapologetic call to chase dreams

What sets ‘Follow’ apart is the fusion of its creators’ diverse backgrounds—AGGi’s Danish-Ghanaian roots, UBeyond’s South African artistry, Mark Fosnæs’s Danish heritage, and Elias Anguyo’s Ugandan-Danish influences. Together, they crafted something greater than the sum of its parts.
